Reflections on Learning 6σ in Everlight Chemical

From April 24 to April 30, Zhang Shunqing, Vice President of Supply Chain at our company led a group of employees from the supply chain, engineering technology, informationmanagement, equipment management, human resources, and finance departments to Everlight Chemical's facility in Taiwan to acquire knowledge of Six Sigma.

The Taiwan trip was very rewarding. Factory visits and Six Sigma training exposed us to the enormous R&D capability, scientific manufacturing process control methods, and the relentless pursuit of product quality at Everlight Chemical. Those capabilities were the most precious experience that we ought to benefit from and study carefully.

Although two days of Six Sigma courses was quite short, we learned a great deal. Everlight Chemical's introduction to the essence of Six Sigma made us understand how powerful it is as a tool in improving product quality and problem solving. It can further help our company achieve the goal known as "taking quality as our core competence and making our company to an international brand." During the training sessions of Six Sigma theories, the experts and instructors did not just read from the books to deliver knowledge. Rather, they used instructional tools such as the catapult kit to let everybody quickly grasp the concept with ease through the games and understand the importance of statistical techniques. We were deeply impressed.

After we came back, everyone was very excited. With the support and guidance of our company, we immediately formed a Six Sigma task force. We established the organizational structure, management duties, team members, and projects to be implemented of the Six Sigma team. We want to fully implement Six Sigma management and seek zero defect in our product quality.

By now, we have selected three Six Sigma projects for implementation:

1. The application of water pinch technology in mercerizers, and the goal is reducing water use by 15%.
2. Solving the problem of spots in screen plate making.
3. Improving the efficiency of sewing suspended fabrics. By now, the three projects are at the stage of data gathering and analysis.

During the implementation, we received guidance and recommendations from experts in Six Sigma such as Vice President Peng and Assistant General Manager Wu at Everlight Chemical. They instructed us to create an organizational structure and prioritize our plans. They also offered information on tools and software used in Six Sigma management, resolving many difficulties in implementing Six Sigma at our company.

I believe that, under the guidance of experts at Everlight Chemical and with the dedication of Six Sigma team members at YuYue Home Textile, we can achieve the Six Sigma standard and realize the goal of zero quality defects.

Visit at Everlight Chemical reopened the gate to YuYue Home Textile's 6σ crusade
